The who, the what, and the why
Clay! Woo!
The Beagle and The Alchemist is a small pottery business in Lacombe, Alberta. Operated by Jennifer "Gwen" Obst and formerly Buddy the beagle.
The Beagle and The Alchemist name comes from a story I heard in one of my art history classes. I don't remember all the names of the people involved but I remember this: Back when Porcelain was all the rage in Europe, an alchemist was being drunk and disorderedly and was thrown in jail by an arch duke. The Arch duke said "make me gold and I will let you out" the alchemist said "I will do you one better, I will make you porcelain!" and he made the first European soft body porcelain. I liked that story. Ceramics (or pottery as some know it as) is very much a scientific process, but it feels like magic. So Alchemy/Alchemist just seemed like the right word.
Beagle, well that's easy, my dog is a beagle.
